Diagnostics

Do you have a family history of heart disease or cancer? Are you one of the 25 million Americans living with a chronic disease without knowing it? Don’t you deserve to have confidence in your health?

New technological advancements allow physicians to detect disease in it’s earliest stages. At Metro Medical Direct clients receive a comprehensive approach to primary care and Preventive Medicine.

Some of the most common preventive tests include:

CT Angiography

CT Angiography is a less invasive test than a cardiac catheterization to evaluate the health of your coronary arteries. Many plaques can be picked up early and active preventative therapy can be started to greatly reduce your risk of a heart attack or stroke. Arteries supply blood to the heart, and brain. Deposits of plaque made up of cholesterol and calcium can diminish this blood flow. Medications and directed lifestyle modifications can help reverse this process, but only if started early.

Nuclear Stress Test (Thallium)

A nuclear stress test measures blood flow to your heart muscle at rest and during stress. It is performed similar to a routine exercise stress test but provides images in addition to electrocardiograms. A radioactive substance is injected into your bloodstream that mixes with your blood and travels to your heart. A special scanner that detects the radioactive material in your heart creates images of your heart muscle.

Contrasted MRI studies
MRI scans are a non-radiation test to provide a detailed image of the body. The main difference between an MRI and CT scan is the radiation exposure. Increased radiation exposure can become a risk factor for cancer over time. For this reason radiation studies should be used more sparingly and only when they are indicated. A typical CT scan is the equivalent of 500 chest X-rays all at once.

Pulmonary Function Test

Pulmonary Function Testing has been a major factor in assessing the functional status of the lungs as it measures how well lungs take in and release air and move oxygen into the blood. This testing is conducted to diagnose certain types of lung disease such as asthma, bronchitis, and emphysema, or to find the cause of shortness of breath. During the test, the patient places a clip over the nose and breathes through the mouth into a tube connected to a machine known as a spirometer to help the doctor measure the lung function.

Electrocardiogram (EKG)

The electrocardiogram is a diagnostic tool that measures and records the electrical activity of the heart in delicate detail. Interpretation of these details allows diagnosis of a wide range of heart conditions. These conditions can vary from minor to life threatening. It is important to be relaxed and relatively warm during the test as any movement, including muscle tremors such as shivering, can alter the results. This test can be performed in the comfort of your home, office or hotel in NYC.
